UnityPoint Health - UnityPlace is proud to offer the most comprehensive addiction and mental health services in the Peoria, Illinois region to you and your family. UnityPlace was formed by the joining of UnityPoint Health®, Human Service Center and Tazwood Center for Wellness in April of 2019. UnityPlace is a new non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the growing behavioral health care needs of the community. Our compassionate and committed treatment team is comprised of many experts from psychiatry and addiction medicine.

Reporting to the Board of UnityPlace and to the Regional CEO of UnityPoint Health, the President’s role at UnityPlace encompasses a broad set of business and operational responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:

  •  Serving as the highest-ranking official with responsibility for the strategic direction of UnityPlace with full financial accountability, managed risk and operational effectiveness; 
  • Providing inspiring leadership and leveraging core values to create a positive, high performance culture; 
  • Maintaining a high-performance team of professionals who are satisfied, enthusiastic team members; 
  • Pursuing the highest standards and regulatory requirements, delivering quality behavioral health programs and services, and achieving excellence in outcomes and quality of life; 
  • Leading strategic planning to define and deliver comprehensive behavioral health, addiction, and medical services across a broad geographic region; 
  • Building meaningful relationships with key constituencies including team members, the Board of Trustees and members of the local community served by UnityPlace; and 
  • Understanding, communicating and enhancing the history of UnityPoint Health, Human Service Center and Tazwood Mental Health Center.


Essential characteristics

  • A talented and recognized professional, community or business leader with knowledge of, and passion for, comprehensive behavioral health services; 
  • A leader who excels in developing and articulating a compelling vision and executable plan for all UnityPlace stakeholders in and outside of the surrounding community; 
  • An unwavering commitment to continuous improvement of the patient experience; 
  • Expertise in assessing strengths, opportunities, threats and weaknesses, and using solid analytical skills and exceptional financial acumen to assist in the implementation of the strategic plan and ongoing operations; 
  • A proven track record of leadership within a complex environment, who conceptually understands leading and blending strategic and operational capabilities not just in one organization but within a system; 
  • An understanding of important trends and issues affecting behavioral health services; 
  • The ability and commitment to apply creativity and innovation to deliver high quality care that is accessible and affordable to the diverse population; 
  • Recognized as a knowledgeable, credible, trustworthy professional; 
  • Experience in diverse environments, including executive-level responsibility in either a behavioral health organization or other complex organizational setting; 
  • An operating style and professionalism that enables the behavioral health community to flourish; 
  • While a terminal degree is highly valued and greatly preferred, candidates without a terminal degree who demonstrate superior leadership and understand the critical importance of servitude, collaboration, coordination, positive culture and trust among all stakeholders, will also be considered.


Other desirable skills and experiences include: 

  • Excellence in relationship-building with all constituencies, including team members, donors, community members and other stakeholders; 
  • Strong executive presence and management skills with a clear track record of success; 
  • Proven ability to develop and lead high-performance teams; 
  • Successful track record as a role model for senior leaders and team members where candor, reality-based and constructive dialogue are encouraged and welcomed; 
  • A trusted leader with sound judgment and decision-making capability; able to handle pressure and manage difficult, complex challenges with calm professionalism; 
  • Ability to immediately establish credibility and respect as a leader, possessing outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; and 
  • A commitment to teamwork, team building, providing partnerships and involvement in decision-making.
