This position is responsible to respond to the needs of adults with a Serious Mental Illness (SMI) using a patient-centered approach which removes silos of care and supports an integrated system.
The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing support services and serving as a member advocate. The Peer Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist members in their own recovery process and role model competency in ongoing coping skills.
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Lived experience with a serious mental illness with demonstrated stability in recovery
Valid driver’s license
Complete Peer Support Training
Experience in working with adults with mental illness
Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or Peer Recovery Specialist through the Iowa Board of Certification
Knowledge of community resources
