Under the immediate supervision of the Clinical Director this position is responsible for rendering nursing care to clients of Top of the World Ranch. Primary responsibility for this position includes on-going patient assessment and corresponding documentation using comprehensive knowledge of ASAM criteria. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the client population being served.  Responsible for nursing care and appropriate documentation and coordination of client medical needs while in residence at the center, staff training in patient assessment, medication distribution and other appropriate nursing care topics. Ability to assist in delivering client programming and developing appropriate nursing/health related program is also expected.


Client Care


  • Complete nursing assessment and documentation of clients of TOTWR upon admission to program using ASAM criteria.
  • Responsible for developing treatment plan of care, consulting with medical professionals as needed.
  • Provide on-going patient assessment for biomedical psychosocial and withdrawal symptoms with appropriate clinical interventions coordinated.
  • Responsible for medication administration to clients, including documentation via use of the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
  • Provide staff training as indicated in procedures/practices for medication distribution including appropriate documentation via MAR.
  • Provide meaningful and necessary information to prospective clients about the TOTWR treatment center offerings/approaches to care in collaborative fashion with other clinical and support staff..
  • Provides guidance, support, and appropriate education for TOTWR support staff.
  • Maintains professional attitude and personal behavior which enhances the efficacy of the therapeutic environment. 
  • Serves in a leadership role in identifying/educating and implementing nursing care changes that support client satisfaction improvements.
  • Effective management / utilization of all organizational and developmental resources in order to provide quality care and ensure adequate supplies are available for nursing care.
  • Maintains a therapeutic, secure and safe environment for clients.  Intervenes appropriately and therapeutically in crisis situations. 
  • Documents crisis situation/interventions/remediation in the clinical file.
  • Responsible for documenting nursing care in client files (Medical Records) in accordance with organizational policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with client programming as appropriate.







  • Prepares and submits reports as deemed necessary.
  • Organizes and facilitates regulatory visits/inquiries including assembly of any reporting and records required to support such visit or inquiry.
  • Participates in any quality assurance program and seeks to continuously improve the program within fiscal and departmental parameters.

Nursing Degree



Master’s degree in nursing or health related field preferred








1-3 years direct patient care



Previous experience with substance abuse and addiction treatment, especially in a residential setting.










·       Current licensure by the Illinois State Board of Nursing


·       Current CPR certification


·       Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.



Addiction Nursing Certification preferred










·       Excellent interpersonal skills

·       Effective communication both written and verbal.

·       Consistently demonstrate caring and compassionate communications with all constituents.

·       Knowledge of theories and techniques used in the treatment of dual diagnosis with emphasis on addictions.

  • Proficient in use of computer software programs, as well as utilization of a case management program.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations of clients
  • Ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship with various agencies, as well as departmental personnel.





  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to maintain integrity in the profession despite legal and/or outside influences
  • Ability to work evening shifts, over night shifts, weekends and/or hold weekend groups if deemed necessary
  • Ability to facilitate groups and individual treatment for adults.
  • Ability to develop group programming for adults.
