The Trauma and Pulmonology/Critical Care Departments at Iowa Methodist Medical Center seek a Trauma and Critical Care Statistical Intern to collaborate with the research team. The position will support the investigators and staff in conducting a retrospective and prospective research studies. The primary focus of this internship will be data analysis, but duties could also include literature searches, data collection, data entry, and manuscript preparation. The intern will collaborate with the research team on scholarly work leading to presentation at regional and national conferences and/or publication in peer-reviewed journals. The intern will have the opportunity to be an author on any presentation or manuscript that results from work during this internship.
We are looking for a candidate who is curious, flexible, responsible, and detail-oriented. We encourage you to apply if you intend to pursue a career in social science or medical research. The intern will primarily work on study design and statistical analysis. The candidate must possess the ability to work independently (without statistical instruction from staff at UnityPoint Health). There will be two main phases of the study: study design and data analysis. As part of study design, the intern will assist the study team in developing study hypotheses, determining the variables that must be collected, conducting power analyses to determine sample size, and identifying the appropriate control group. As part of data analysis, the intern will work with the study team to analyze data and interpret and communicate study results. The intern will attend study meetings and will provide guidance to the team as the study progresses.
Currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.0. · Completed coursework in advanced statistics and research design including any of the following: multivariate or logistic regression, survival analysis, or rare event analysis · Advanced skills in statistical analysis (using SPSS, SAS, R, etc.) · Excellent oral and written communication skills · Experience designing, conducting, and analyzing research data · Past experience in a clinical setting is helpful but not required.
