Registered Nurse House Supervisor

  • Provides overall supervision of the functions of the hospital during assigned shift, taking action as appropriate, reporting as requested and requesting assistance when indicated.
  • Assists staff with management of patient and visitor concerns, staffing issues and problem solving.
  • Handles media calls.
  • Performs bed management/patient placement activities and addresses patient flow/staffing issues in collaboration with unit leadership.
  • Provides assistance with IV site management.
  • Serves as a notary public.
  • Provides after hour coverage for some departments, delivering needed items to units; i.e., Pharmacy, Logistics, Central Sterile, Surgery, Health Information Management, Laundry, Nutritional Services, Physical Therapy, faxing information or receiving and distributing faxes.
  • Coordinates Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure follow-up process in absence of the Employee Health nurse and provides HIV consent counseling as needed for other situations.
  • Counsels employees regarding inappropriate behavior and participates in the disciplinary action process when appropriate.
  • Completes staffing, patient census, acuity report and the House Supervisor Report daily. Enters census into the One Staff program.
  • Assists and supports managers to meet the objectives of Trinity Regional Medical Center by supporting, explaining and reinforcing decisions, policy changes.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with unit and department staff, medical staff, managers and senior staff.
  • Responds to all codes and functions per standards, recording, coordinating or assisting.
  • Responds to internal and external disasters and functions per standards.
  • Suggests and coordinates with the manager safer, more efficient methods of performing work.
  • Demonstrates positive customer relations skills.
  • Assumes duties as assigned in the absence of the manager.
  • Possesses an ongoing commitment to improving productivity and assisting with management of resources via One Staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Facilitates and fosters cooperative relations between all departments of the organization.
  • Assists admitting RN with wound assessment/staging.
  • Ability to retrieve patient medical records from microfilm.
  • Adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.



Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferrred.  Associate Degree or Diploma required. 

Refer to BSN Voluntary Agreement if new hire.



Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa or applicable compact state.  

Must be licensed in state of residence. 



Two  years of recent experience in a hospital setting with demonstrated leadership abilities and strong clinical abilities.



Demonstrates effective communication skills both written and oral. Knowledge of and ability to obtain medication, equipment and supplies requested by the units or departments.

Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships, adapt to change, evaluate critically and think creatively and be able to organize and plan effectively.

Ability to be assertive to be an advocate for patients, families and staff.

Broad based clinical knowledge. 

Possess integrity, initiative and flexibility.
