    The Regional VP of Ambulatory Operations will provide executive leadership of the Operations of the Methodist Medical Group, including performance excellence processes and systems, financial revenue cycle performance, human resource management, and business development and growth. Position reports to the VP Physician Integration, President MMG / CMO (Referred to as President of MMG in job description). Reporting to this position are the Clinic Directors and support positions of the MMG Pods. This position works closely with the Executive Team to assure the MMG is aligned with the Integrated Delivery System Strategic Plan. In addition, the position interacts with the MMG POD Medical Directors, site leads and MDs and staff of the MMG in job description.


    Regional Vice President of Ambulatory Operations:

    This position is the top regional leadership for the Ambulatory Division and partners with the regional affiliate to ensure a seamless regional delivery system. 


    Key Duties:


    • Understand the current and future state of the healthcare environment
    • Articulate and act toward change and engages the critical masses to follow
    • Create a culture of innovation, teamwork, learning and professional practice consistent with the vision for best outcome for every patient every time
    • Engage regional staff, providers and leaders in regional and systemwide initiatives
    • Inspire successful change and innovation



    • Oversee the recruitment, retention, development and supervision of management in the assigned region
    • Manage outcomes to ensure region is meeting Ambulatory Division’s annual and long-term priorities
    • Work within the region to structure operations to achieve alignment and accountability



    • Provide proactive communication, leadership, and advocacy for the diverse components of the region
    • Communicate system and regional priorities to every team member within the region. Ensure direct channels of communication are in place with regional administrative team.
    • Communicate key concerns from the regional physicians and staff up to the regional/system leadership
    • Communicate key regional priorities/initiatives to system leadership, regional administrative team, clinic administrators, and homecare leaders
    • Co-lead (with Regional VP Medical Director) the Regional Physician Council.



    Key Responsibilities:


    • Assess the future needs of providers, staff, clinics, community-based services including post-acute, hospital, region and system.
    • Help develop strategic goals for ambulatory division’s program growth, development and innovation
    • Help produce, communicate and manage clinical, patient engagement, operational, business and organizational development plans
    • Actively participate in physician employment and professional service contract oversight and management. Help negotiate contracts to ensure necessity, reasonableness and feasibility.
    • Implement new or revise current programs and/or services set out in the strategic plan


    Active Performance Management

    • Routinely review and analyze the quality, operational and financial performance of the region’s clinical sites and programs.
    • Successfully partner with service line experts to meet exceed budgeted performance targets
    • Provide performance reports to UnityPoint leadership, management, providers and staff and manage outcomes to established targets and standards
    • Actively develop leadership/management skills of regional directors and managers
    • Ensure roles of all regional physicians and employees are understood
    • Assess and secure appropriate clinic staff for performance and growth
    • Manage the financial, human, and capital resources of the region by monitoring operating revenues and expenses, establishing and managing cost control programs, monitoring budget variances, and initiating corrective actions as necessary
    • Attend and contribute to all key forums.


    Risk Management

    • Routinely participate and perform physicians performance evaluation
    • Routinely participate and perform staff performance evaluations
    • Monitor clinical incident reports to identify and manage clinical risk areas
    • Deploy clinical risk management programs to mitigate undue clinical risk exposures



    • Consistently deploy and participate with the organization’s physician recruitment and practice acquisition protocols
    • Work with our physician recruiting teams to assist with the recruitment of new providers to the region



    Credentials and Qualifications:

    • 5-8 years of experience in leading and directing all aspects of physician practices or post-acute settings.
    • MBA/MHCM or equivalent preferred
    • Experience with physician contracting required
    • Strong financial, strategic planning and business development experience
    • Knowledge and experience with Clinical Process Improvement
    • Regulatory and compliance experience
    • Working familiarity with medical group or community based services operation, IT/IS systems/platforms, Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word, etc) for data analysis and presentations.
