  • Overview

    Utilizing the Nursing Process and the principles of Trauma Informed Care (TIC), coordinates and implements care of patients within an assigned unit under the direction of the Nurse Manager. Performs work of considerable difficulty according to the scope and standards of psychiatric-mental health nursing. Represents nursing within UnityPoint and works to improve the health of the communities we serve.

    Responsibilities

    Demonstrates competence in the skills, (critical thinking, interpersonal, and technical necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility.

     

     

     

    Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50 lbs. or more)

    Qualifications

    This position requires minimum of 1 year of nursing experience. 

     

    EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must be a graduate of accredited School of Nursing. Previous acute care or behavioral health experience required. BSN degree preferred.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: The following is required:

      1. Ability to use the nursing process with patients throughout the age continuum.
      2. Knowledge of crisis intervention and care coordination.
      3. Ability to critically think, problem solve; plan, organize, and coordinate patient care activities.
      4. The ability to establish rapport quickly and to communicate effectively with consumers of healthcare, their family members and other providers orally, and in writing.
      5. The ability to function effectively as a member of an interprofessional team that includes behavioral health and primary care providers, consumers and family members.
      6. The ability to conduct a brief, evidenced based and developmentally appropriate screening and to conduct or arrange for more detailed assessments when indicated.
      7. The ability to create and implement integrated care plans, ensuring access to an array of linked services, and the exchange of information among consumers, family members, and providers.
      8. The ability to provide a range of brief, focused prevention, treatment and recovery services.
      9. The ability to provide services that are relevant to the culture of the consumer and their family.
      10. The ability to function effectively within the organizational and financial structures of the local system of healthcare.
      11. The ability to assess and continually improve the services delivered.
      12. The ability to use information technology to support and improve integrated healthcare.

     

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Current Registered Professional Nurse with licensure in both Iowa and Illinois. Must maintain current CPR Certification. De-escalation Training scheduled within 6 months of employment and maintained annually thereafter. National Psychiatric Nursing Board Certification preferred.
