    UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge

    Manager - Palliative Care

    FTE: 1.0 (Full-time, 40 hours per week)

    Responsibilities

    Management and day to day coordination/responsibility  of complex cross continuum Palliative Medicine program and team.  Regional and system involvement and accountability  in enhancing delivery of population health to specific patient populations. 

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for activity and operations within specified area and will have organizational responsibility for area’s staff and budget.
    • Responsible for organizing staffing and administering all personnel in one or more functional organizational units.
    • Responsible for providing functional advice and control to all units of the organization within their discipline.
    • Activities of subordinates are highly technical and varied; supervision may require complex scheduling and functional guidance in a very complex environment.
    • Responsible for ongoing management and strategic growth of rapidly growing and evolving Palliative Care Program. Creation, program builds, implementation, evaluation, and intervention for organiazational compliance.
    • Responsible for direct validation, reporting and submitting of CAPC and system data related to PC metrics.
    • Participation and submission of data and reports to Palliative Care councils at system level.
    • Particiaption in marketing and education to multiple stakeholders, medical departments, public.

    Planning:

    • Develop annual goals and objectives.
    • Develop strategic plan.
    • Devlop and evaluate job descriptions, orientation tools and competency tools specific to Paliative Care

    Organizing:

    • Develop and revise structure to meet goals.
    • Organize workflows and responsibilites to ensure all personnel working at the top of their license

    Budget/Controlling:

    • Plan and manage the effective and efficient use of human resources.
    • Prepare and operate under a budget.

    Directing/Evaluating:

    • Develop system to measure area’s effectiveness.
    • Ensure area is in compliance with rules and regulations.
    • Manage day to day operations.
    • Evaluate employee performance.

    Staffing/Scheduling:

    • Identify and develop staffing plans.
    • Insure proper alignment to meet needs of growing Post Acute arena

    Training:

    • Develop key personnel in their area.

    Coordinating:

    • Ensure proper communications and plans are coordinated with other areas.

    Decision Making:

    • Ability to make frequent decisions and take actions of a difficult nature involving several related functions.
    • Objectives involve resolution of highly complex problems using factual information and management principles.
    • Requires ability to make frequent technical decisions and take action of a difficult and complex nature to achieve assigned objectives.
    • Responsible for developing problem solutions using established principles.

    Mental Demands:

    Mental demands include but not limited to: 

    • Originates moderate to complex methods, procedures, products, or ideas in new undefined areas. 
    • Applies independent thinking and resourcefulness to direct major operations, activities, or projects.
    • Originates new or improved methods, procedures, products or ideas when methods are fully defined or involves the refinement of established ideas of a complex nature.

    Qualifications

     

    Minimum Requirements

    Preferred or Specialized

    Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Education:

     

     

     

     

    Must be a RN. Bachelors Of Science Degree in Nursing required or demonstrated  professional level of knowledge and experience normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree. 

    BSN degree preferred.  Refer to Voluntary BSN Agreement if a new hire.

    Experience:

     

     

     

     

    Two (2) years staff nurse experience.

     

    Three (3) years in related area  preferred. 

     

    Previous charge, managerial experience preferred

     

    Previous Home Health Care, Hospice, and /or Palliative Medicine experience preferred.

    License(s)/Certification(s):

     

     

     

     

    Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa or applicable compact state.   Must be licensed in state of residence .

     

    Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) refer to Job Description Addendum.

     

    Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

     

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

     

     

     

     

     

    Must demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills required for area of assignment. Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain effective interpersonal skills.   Must be able to solve problems, think creatively, communicate effectively and manage changing circumstances.  Ability to delegate effectively.  Must demonstrate a high level of integrity, vision, and analytical skills.

     

    Other:

     

     

     

     

     

    Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

     

    Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities.  May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.
