Powell 5 is an interregnal part of the Level 1 Trauma program and holds The Blue Distinction for the care we give patients with total hip and total knee replacements. Integrates the UnityPoint Health Des Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice. Consistently delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process, UnityPoint Health standard of care, and evidence – based practice guidelines. Demonstrates specialty knowledge and clinical skills required to effectively treat assigned patients. Utilizes nursing knowledge to educate and prepare patient and family for discharge. Makes the necessary referrals to community agencies to provide continuity of care. Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments. Maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients. Delegates, provides direction and mentors other assigned healthcare providers. Promptly completes documentation to maintain an accurate record of patient’s care. Accurately documents according to regulatory and third party requirements. Documentation and billing for services exhibit an understanding of requirements and ethical practices.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Qualifications: Current active Iowa License to practice as a RN. Department of Labor Level III (Medium) Work. Candidates must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment strength and agility test at Medium Level of Work. ***PLEASE NOTE: All newly licensed RNs with less than six months of acute RN experience and who are interested in this department are required to participate in the RN Residency program. Newly licensed nurses must apply for the Registered Nurse Residency position. Applications are accepted three times each year in March, June and October for cohorts beginning respectively in July, October and February.
