  • Overview

    The Nurse Practitioner delivers primary and specialty care with a high degree of expertise within the specialties of pediatric and adolescent health by formulating a plan based on assessment, examination, and selected diagnostic procedures within her/his scope of practice.  The Nurse Practitioner also provides leadership for the health care team by collaborating with the physician, school nurse, case manager and building faculty to ensure that high quality, comprehensive health care is delivered.  Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, quality patient/family care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

    • Assess status of the client by:
      • discriminating between normal and abnormal physical findings;
      • recognizing deviations from normal growth and development.
    • Manage client care by:
      • providing routine immunizations according to AAP standards;
      • providing for treatment;
      • assisting other members of the health team with management of clients            referred for problems;
      • participating in and when appropriate continuing health care plans involving the client, family, and other resource personnel.
    • Is competent in performing procedures specific to the service line.        
    • Coordinates care when indicated with outside sources including lab, x-ray, private health care providers, social workers, and public health
    • Obtains accurate and adequate specimens; labels all specimens in accordance with standards.
    • Performs forensic medical examinations of children and adolescents in association with active child abuse investigations. 
    • Performs physical examinations of drug exposed infants and children.
    • Supervises administration and interprets Denver Developmental Screening for drug exposed infants and children.
    • Provides pediatric primary health care services

    Qualifications

     Full time adult Psych Consultation/Liaison practice – Work in a variety of settings ED, ICU, Med/Surg.  Must be licensed in Iowa and ARNP candidates must be ANCC Certified.  Work directly with individuals and families to provide Mental Health evaluations and follow up visits at three Des Moines area hospitals: Methodist, Lutheran and Methodist West. Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off. Daily schedule is flexible

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Minimum Requirements

    Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Education:

     

     

     

    Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program in area of specialty. 

    Master’s degree or demonstrating active progress toward attainment of Master’s degree. 

    Certification in specialty area. 

     

     

    Experience:

     

     

     

     

    Requires a minimum of one year experience in area of specialty. 

    Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 

    Must be able to effectively deal with diverse client population and community partners

     

    License(s)/Certification(s):

     

     

     

     

    Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

    Current licensure as RN and ARNP in the State of Iowa.
