Under general supervision, oversees workflow of day-to-day duties of the school health office; performs services as assigned by the school registered nurse and in accordance with written policy. School health assistant responsibilities will vary according to the school health program.
Serves as the primary point of contact for students needing health assistance and maintains good working relationships with students, parents, staff members and administration.
Provides care to students by taking vital readings, preforming CPR/First Aid, diabetic testing, and reporting illnesses and injuries to school nurse as warranted.
Assist school nurse with administering medication to students as delegated and in accordance with written policy
Prepare and/or perform health screenings as assigned.
Ensures health office is well-maintained and functional
Maintain Student immunization and health records, along with class lists.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Prior experience working with children.
Previous medical office experience preferred
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Must completed Iowa Department of Education requirements on Medication Administration
Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office, Internet and Email.
Read, write, and speak English
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
