  • Overview

    As a member of the Imaging Department management team, this role is responsible to the Imaging Director for the day to day operations within the Imaging department: staffing, patient complaints, protocols, regulations, and equipment . Assists in strategic planning and budgeting for the Imaging Department. Ensures comprehensive understanding, adherence to and compliance with all state, federal and local regulatory laws, national and local standards of care and established imaging practices and policies.

     

    **Main office is at Muscatine but does rotate through the 3 QC campus locations as well for the ancillary staff. **

     

     

    Responsibilities

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

     

    TECHNICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE/CLINICAL: (Total Weight of 100) Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility.

     

    A.  Staffing Responsibilities in conjunction with the Clinical Specialists/Leads

    • Assigns and checks work per shift/day to established benchmark.
    • Checks each departments computer schedules and adjusts staffing accordingly.
    • Monitors department volumes on a continual and daily basis and adjusts staffing accordingly.
    • Work to achieve staff satisfaction/engagement

     B.  Identifies and recommends improvement opportunities.

    • Watches for trends that need staffing adjustments.
    • Performs employee evaluations for assigned departments.
    • Monitors, contributes and updates department PI boards

     C.  Monitor departmental time-keeping on a daily basis.

    • Assist HR in the annual verification of all staff licensing.    

     D.  Resource and Revenue Enhancement Use

    • Assigns staff per established benchmarks
      • Tracks each departments daily staffing and adjusts as needed
    • Assures charges are entered per established department standards
      • Oversees that all charges are completed, checked and entered each day in each department.
    • Identifies and resolves issues within scope of responsibility or involves Director
      • Makes certain that staff is making good use of time and resources.
      • Assures that all equipment is in good working condition
    • Assists Director in the annual budgeting process.

     

    E.  Satisfaction- Patient, Physician, Work Environment

    • Identifies and resolves process or service problems/issues on a real time basis.
      • Monitors processes on a daily basis.
      • Resolves any customer satisfaction issues that arise.
      • Involves department Director as needed.
    • Models behavior for meeting/exceeding performance targets
      • Is knowledgeable on all performance targets in all areas of the department.
      • Is a role model for staff to meet all performance targets.
    • Implements organizational strategies to achieve desired customer service outcomes.
      • Meets with staff for input and to implement customer service plan
      • Shares Press Ganey results with staff on a regular basis.
      • Monitors staff behavior in meeting performance targets.
    • Identifies , recommends and implements initiatives to improve satisfaction
      • Strategizes with other campus leads, clinical specialists and department Director on ways to continuously improve patient satisfaction.

     F.  Department/Service Quality Indicators.

    • Assures performance is consistent with established quality targets.
    • Needs to be aware of the industry quality requirements (i.e. MQSA standards, IEMA, IDPA, FDA, and other State and Federal regulations, etc.)
    • Assures department meets PI standards and QA metrics
    • Ensures comprehensive understanding, adherence to and compliance with all state, federal and local regulatory laws 
    • Identifies and resolves quality problems/issues real time.
    • Monitors processes and equipment on a daily basis.
    • Resolves processes and equipment issues on a daily basis.              
    • Identifies, recommends and implements quality improvement initiatives.
    • Monitors all areas of service for opportunities for quality improvement.
    • Presents opportunities for quality improvement to department Director.
    • Participates in Process Improvement as requested by department Director

     

    G.  Safety- Patient

    • Models behavior for meeting/exceeding the National Patient Safety Goals
      • Is aware of all hospital safety policies and procedures.
      • Practices hospital safety procedures on a daily basis.
      • Practices good radiation safety.
    • Identifies and resolves safety problems/issues on a real time basis.
      • Monitors department safety issues on a daily basis.
      • Resolves department safety concerns on a daily basis.
    • Identifies recommends and implements safety improvement initiatives.
    • Monitors all areas of service for opportunities to improve safety.
    • Presents opportunities for safety improvement to department Director.

     

    H.  Safety - Employee

    • Models behavior for meeting/exceeding safety performance targets
    • Is aware of all hospital safety policies and procedures.
    • Practices hospital safety procedures on a daily basis.
    • Practices good radiation safety.
    • Identifies and resolves safety problems/issues on a real time basis.
    • Monitors/Resolves department safety issues on a daily basis.
    • Identifies recommends and implements safety improvement initiatives.
    • Monitors all areas of service for opportunities to improve safety.
    • Presents opportunities for safety improvement to department Director. 

     

    I.  Talent Development.

    • Coach employee’s real time to achieve desired performance out comes.
    • Monitors staff for opportunities for improvements
    • Checks with individual employees to assure their needs are being met.
    • Assist with orientation of staff to be successful.
    • Works with clinical specialist and/or assigned mentor to assure that staff is oriented properly.
    • Checks with individual employees to assure that they have received proper orientation.
    • Completes the 30/60/90 day orientation check list.
    • Identifies variance performance expectation and provides feedback
    • Keeps the department Director informed of all employee performance variances.
    • Works with the department Director on all disciplinary action. Provides feedback as needed

     

     

    J.  Assists Director in the evaluation process of all employees                

     

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a JRCERT approved School of Radiologic Technology. Prefers Bachelor Degree in Business Management, Health Care Administration or minimum of five years’ experience with intrinsic knowledge of radiology services in a hospital setting. Prior employee leadership preferred

     

    KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Broad experience and varied technical expertise, initiative, independent judgment, interacts well with people, possesses ability to supervise, is responsible and has knowledge of and abides by rules of regulatory agencies. A strong clerical and computer knowledge is required.

     

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Holds a current license with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and/or the Iowa Department of Public Health (Registered Radiologic Technologist)
