  • Overview

    Performs a variety of service functions including preparing cafeteria for meal service, serving food items to cafeteria customers, cash register operation, cleaning of cafeteria, patient tray line duties, dish room duties and related sanitation tasks.

    Responsibilities

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting no more than 40 pounds, standing, bending, pushing and pulling of carts.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Greets cafeteria customers in a pleasant and respectful manner.
    • Prepares/sets up cafeteria for meal service.
    • Reviews production sheets prior to meal service.
    • Inspects food before and during service for proper temperatures and appearance.
    • Serves customers in the cafeteria line.
    • Portions foods utilizing proper portion control techniques.
    • Communicates frequently with cooks to assure adequate amounts of food during service periods.
    • Replenishes cafeteria with serviceware and supplies during meal period.
    • Operates cash register according to standard procedure. Receives cash and makes appropriate change, or processes employee charges.
    • Responsibly handles all monetary transactions. Locks cash register when leaving immediate area.
    • Reconciles cash drawer accurately; fills out reconciliation slip precisely.
    • Dismantles and cleans cafeteria serving area at end of meal service period.
    • Keeps cafeteria supplies stocked.
    • Keeps cafeteria, including tables and chairs, clean, neat and orderly.
    • Updates menu signage as appropriate.
    • Assembles food items, beverages, condiments, and/or silverware on patient trays.
    • Maintains tray line in a clean, neat, and orderly manner.
    • May deliver tray carts to the patient floors.
    • May assist with Meals on Wheels or Congregate meals portioning.
    • Assembles and disassembles dish machine according to procedure.
    • Scrapes trays; loads and unloads dish machine.
    • Collects and cleans/sanitizes pots and pans.
    • Delivers clean serviceware, utensils, and pots and pans to appropriate areas.
    • Takes and records dish machine temperatures.
    • Maintains dish machine and dishroom in a clean and orderly fashion.
    • Collects and disposes of trash and garbage.
    • Sweeps and mops kitchen.
    • Delivers AM coffee to designated areas.
    • Performs routine and special cleaning duties as assigned.
    • Responsible for reporting non-compliance issues to the Compliance Officer.

    • Attends inservices as scheduled; completes annual education requirements.
    • Complies with Safety Guidelines and Universal Precautions.
    • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
    • Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.

    Qualifications

    SKILLS: Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Effective communications; customer relations skills. Planning and organizational skills. Will use basic level of mathematics. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read English and communicate effectively.

    EDUCATION BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Must have high school diploma or its equivalent. Some prior food service experience is helpful.
