The Certified Pharmacy Technician is accountable for facilitating responsible provision of pharmacy services through the performance of hospital pharmacy funcions and retail pharmacy function. Functions include the preparation and delivery of medications to nursing and/or ancillary departments, and performing retail pharmacy services under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Prepare and delivery non-sterile medications to nursing units at the outpatient surgery center per schedule and as needed. OR fill is pulled and delivered once daily and as needed. Nursing/Ancillary unit check and pharmacy outdates monthly. Answering and transferring calls as needed. Refill and replace used crash carts and RSI kits. Compounding and reconstituting as needed. Misc. - Refrigerator temps documentation, place Cardinal order for both retail and inpatient. Retail pharmacy functions such as inputing outpatient prescriptions into the computer system checking against the hard copy and make corrections as appropriate. Fills orders appropriate for all ages after doses verified by pharmacist. Take payment(s) from customers, balances cash register at end of day. Inventory control: Sets and maintains inventory levels for prescription products. Solves discrepancies with wholesaler (shorts, longs, credits, etc.). Inspects pharmacy for outdates.This position is a blend of both retail and inpatient pharmacy funcitons.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
1- 3 months of on-the-job training
Knowledge of the department’s policies and guidelines, medical terminology and drug product nomenclature.
Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Technician at the time of hire.
Four or more years of retail pharmacy experience preferred.
Retail pharmacy billing (reconciling payments) experience preferred.
