Under the direction of the Respiratory Therapy Manager, the general supervision of the Lead person, and with the guidance of the Medical Director, the individual will be required to perform Respiratory Therapy Service modalities as ordered by physician to in-patients and out-patients throughout the Trinity Medical Center facility.
TECHNICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE/CLINICAL: Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Care Program and registered (RRT) or considered registry-eligible by the NBRC. Employees are required to go through a 3 to 6 week orientation, depending on level of experience for proper orientation to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Must be familiar with and demonstrate competency on Humidifiers, O2 therapy related equipment, aerosols, and pulse oximetry. Nebulizers, inhalers, and applicable medications. Mechanical percussors, bedside pulmonary screeners, EKG's, and volume expansion therapy. Emergency airway equipment, Arterial blood gases and trach changes, Adult ventilators (both invasive and non-invasive). Ability to serve in the charge therapist role as needed. Serve as a clinical preceptor to students Equipment and therapies associated with the care of the neonatal population. Ability to accept assignments at the Moline and Bettendorf Campuses. Intubation (not required, but within the scope of practice). Individuals should be able to accept and perform new responsibilities assigned to the Respiratory Therapy Department, have knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and other sciences relating to Respiratory Care, and be able to perform Respiratory Care with a high sense of responsibility and accuracy. Must exhibit mature judgment, honesty, and integrity. Tact, good judgment, verbal ability, and a positive attitude are very important attributes when dealing with patients, patient's families, physicians, nurses, and other hospital employees.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Iowa licensure must be obtained within 1 month from date of hire. Illinois licensure – must provide proof of completed and submitted application within the first week of employment. Certifications include CPR upon hire and ACLS / NRP within 6 months from date of hire. Registrations - All employees will have 6 months from date of hire to obtain their RRT credential. If testing attempted but not passed by the 6 month deadline, therapist may remain employed provided they provide proof of re-attempt of test every 3 months. Employees who fail to pass necessary testing within a 2 year time frame will fail to meet this requirement.
