Overview

 

Conducts and performs radiation therapeutic procedures at a technician level under general supervision of Lead Technologist and in cooperation with the Radiation Oncologist.

 

Responsibilities

 

TECHNICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE/CLINICAL: (Total Weight of 100) Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility.

 

        A.   Utilizes technical skills in applying ionizing radiation for treatment of patients with cancer.

 

        B.   Demonstrates competence in the administration of age appropriate care.

 

                1.   Seeks appropriate knowledge of age specific criteria for pediatric and adolescent patients if they are treated in the facility.

 

        C.   Correctly maintains and evaluates patient treatment records.

 

        D.   Maintains good knowledge of all therapeutic equipment within the department.

 

        E.   Assists Radiation Oncologist with patients exams as necessary.

 

        F.   Educates patients about procedures.

 

        G.   Assists with orientation of new employees and students.

 

        H.   Contributes to the general appearance and maintenance of the Regional Oncology Center.

 

 

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Graduate from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology and Radiation Therapy Technology. One Year experience as a Radiologic Technologist desired.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Must be aware of responsibilities of  providing physical care to patients. Possesses appropriate knowledge of age specific criteria for dealing with adult and geriatric populations.   Must be able to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions.  Must be familiar with policies and measures that are relevant to job.  Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and staff and maintain good patient and public relations. Knowledge of applying ionizing radiation for treatment of patients with cancer.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Current registration in Radiation Therapy Technology from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT). Current license with the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.  Current CPR certification required.
