Ensures the daily organization of the department by helping to lead, coordinate, plan, and evaluate patient care and personnel in the delivery of patient care, under the direction of the Manager. Supervises and directs the operations of the Unit in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the hospital. Accountable for all aspects of unit operations and patient care to ensure best practices are followed.
Demonstrates competence in the skills necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility. Reflects demonstrated performance as defined by the Performance Rating Scale.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor degree in Nursing preferred. Demonstrated clinical competence of 1 year experience in nursing unit specialty. Registered nurse with Illinois and Iowa license.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Demonstrated knowledge of health care, organizational theory, and operational policies. Must be able to effectively interact and lead a large number of professional people. Must be current in knowledge of clinical practice as it relates to nursing unit specialty. Requires experience with supplies, equipment, quality assurance, infection control, scheduling, staffing, physician relations and over-all leadership of the department. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff. Ability to plan, organize, and manage time effectively.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse licensed in both Illinois and Iowa. CPR and ACLS are required.
