In collaboration with the Executive Director of Clinical Education as well as UPaH and UPC leadership, the Clinical Education Manager provides leadership and direction to Clinical Education team members to drive patient outcomes utilizing industry best practice standards for the Ambulatory space. The Clinical Education Manager leads a team of clinical educators and/or preceptors who assess, create, deliver, and evaluate clinical education programs.


  • Provide leadership to ensure effective, efficient office operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality of care in a vastly changing health care environment.
  • Responsible for creating a culture of innovation, learning, teamwork and professional practice, consistent with the mission, vision and values of the company.
  • Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff, providers, patients and the ambulatory leadership team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork, and staff development.
  • Communicate with ambulatory leadership to review service issues and opportunities for improvement to ensure the delivery of high quality service to all internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for the interview and hiring process including completion of employment forms in an accurate and timely manner and coordination of orientation and training programs for new staff members.
  • Demonstrates sound fiscal management of operations program through understanding of and ongoing review of financial reports.
  • Ensures that staff consistently utilizes a holistic approach considering physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in assigned service area.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, counseling and disciplinary action.
  • Drives the assessment, coordination, development, implementation, and evaluation of all education services.
  • Responsible for overseeing the day to day management of assigned service line including the coordination of operations, establishment of work schedules, and the supervision and training of staff in good patient relations and policies and procedures.
  • Represent department at system leader forums to advocate for and promote clinical education standards of practice.
  • Conduct ongoing review and updates of clinical practices and processes for ambulatory care services to assure compliance with service standards, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

  • Provide professional guidance regarding patient care affiliate policies and procedures and continuous improvement in patient care.

  • Collaborate with Clinical Quality, Patient Experience, Human Resources, and Compliance to assure industry standards and best practices are captured in clinical training

  • Lead initial project planning sessions for team
  • Identify team members to lead and guide projects for department
  • Assess project target milestones
  • Provide insight and guidance for projects
  • Assess individual strengths to drive roadmap initiatives for department
  • Lead professional development opportunities for team members
  • Assist team members in goal development
  • Advocate for clinical education support within the regions
  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable ambulatory and service line compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance


  • BSN
  • 2-3 years leadership experience
  • 2-3 years of Clinical experience preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in community or ambulatory care
  • Current nursing licensure in good standing in the issued state
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • BLS and Mandatory Reporter
  • ICM within one year of start date
