Overview

This position may work out of Madison, WI, Cedar Rapids, IA, Des Moines, IA or Peoria, IL.

 

Plans, organizes, and supervises the application analysts, who implement and provide post live support of the electronic medical record system. Ensures optimum availability of computer system resources through evaluation, selection, and ongoing monitoring of scheduled work.

 

Works with the Assistant Director of IQ4 Clinical Applications, IQ4 Lead Analysts, and Project Managers to utilize all Information Systems resources efficiently. Manages resources to drive successful implementations, as well as, efficient and effective ongoing system support to provide end users with information to deliver top quality healthcare and care coordination.

 

Uses good communications skills to keep all key stakeholders informed of project progress and ongoing system support.

 

Has working knowledge of computer system concepts and general understanding of systems and how they interface into all other systems. Has working knowledge of all hardware that supports the system.

 

Provides daily contact with direct reports to provide leadership, motivation, and guidance to ensure excellence within the department. Assists in the development of an education plan for staff and users.

 

Collaborates with Informatics and Training managers to provide an optimal system support.

 

Keeps current on product literature, vendor user groups, and industry directions and shares all pertinent information with appropriate entities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to staff to ensure effective, efficient operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality in a vastly changing health care environment.
  • Responsible for creating a culture of innovation, learning, teamwork and professionalism, consistent with the mission, vision, strategic pillars, and supporting goals of UnityPoint Health.
  • Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff and the management team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.
  • Participates in establishing and preparing departmental goals, standards, procedures, and instructions, which contribute to the effectiveness of the department in accordance with organizational goals.  
  • Facilitates orientation, inservice, on-the-job training and continuing education programming to meet identified staff development needs.
  • Attends or appoints staff to attend user group meetings to communicate required changes and retrieve new information from vendors. Coordinates training opportunities with other network partners to contain costs where possible.
  • Performs performance appraisals for staff within the department.
  • Creates an environment for staff growth, development, productivity and satisfaction.
  • Ensures completion of department reports.
  • Maintains knowledge of new developments in software and their applicability to the enterprise.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state, and local laws or regulations. Effectively prepares and complies with voluntary accreditation as accepted by the healthcare organizations we serve.
  • Recommends and schedules training sessions where needed to ensure quality support.
  • Works jointly with project management for effective implementation of enterprise solutions.
  • Provides project reports to management as needed.
  • Supports standardization of data elements to assure they are consistent among enterprise partners and hospital departments to promote accurate data transfer and availability where needed.
  • Make recommendations for efficient use of network and hospital resources to minimize duplication where possible.
  • Supports IQ4 User Groups, Affinity Groups, and Governance structure.
  • Understands and supports Service Level Agreement for issue resolution. Participates in root cause analysis and problem solving activities to improve customer service.
  • Supports and adheres to Change Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Applies current cost containment concepts.
  • Actively participates in operational improvement efforts of Information Services.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Adheres to all UnityPoint Health Personnel policies and procedures, departmental policies and Safety guidelines.
  • Behaves in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Requires minimum of three years experience in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred prior management experience.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient care systems.
  • Demonstrates an extensive knowledge of operating system components, job control language, file organizations, initialization procedures, and capacity planning.
  • Requires highly developed communication skills to effectively work with all levels of management throughout UnityPoint Health, its subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Possesses excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to understand and deal effectively with problems and opportunities, which arise, in a complex multiprocessing environment is crucial.
  • Understands computer system functionality, limitations, and architecture of supported applications.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Preferred a minimum of three years in hospital patient care setting.
  • Preferred management experience.
