The Certified Medication Aide’s (CMA) primary purpose is to provide direct resident care, administer non-parenteral medications under direct supervision of the charge nurse, and perform selected procedures according to the resident’s care plan. The CMA is under the direction and supervision of the charge nurse.


FOCUS Values


Satisfactory completion of the CNA certification exam. Must complete the 75-hour CNA course, or successfully challenge the exam.

Must be on the Nurse Aide Registry in good standings.

Successful completion of the CMA course.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Functions successfully in a team environment.

Possesses the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.

Knowledgeable of and able to comply with laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.

Displays a patient, tactful, cheerful and enthusiastic disposition, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

Willingness to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

Ability to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
