Adjunct Faculty are charged with the implementation of activities that are necessary for the attainment of the educational outcomes of an associate or accalaureate program in nursing.




Teaching Responsibility

Didactic Component:    The faculty member will:

  1. Implement the course and assist students in meeting outcomes/objectives.
  2. Evaluate student progress.
  3. Administer exams.
  4. Assign grades
  5. Provide academic/clinical assistance outside of scheduled class time as needed.
  6. Facilitate the learning needs of students in relation to the Philosophy and Goals of the Program.
  7. Demonstrate current knowledge in areas of didactic and nursing practice.
  8. Utilize appropriate, varied and creative teaching methods.

Clinical component:

  1. Facilitate clinical in a manner conductive to learning.
  2. Demonstrate current knowledge in clinical practice.
  3. Assist students in meeting outcomes/objectives.
  4. Supervise students.
  5. Facilitate clinical conferences.
  6. Evaluate student progress.
  7. Individualize instruction to meet student needs.

Related duties:

  1. Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills.
  2. Refer students to appropriate resources.
  3. Communicates effectively with others by fostering open communication.
  4. Function as team player.
  5. Collaborate with others to achieve goals.
  6. Act independently when necessary.
  7. Assume responsibility for safety of students, clients, visitors, and team members.
  8. Attend all mandatory inservices.
  9. Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge of safety related to policy and procedure.
  11. Comply and adhere to all Trinity Medical Center and Trinity College of Nursing policies and procedures.
  12. Perform other duties consistent with position and qualifications.
  13. Utilize supplies and equipment cost-effectively.

Implement Outcomes Assessment Plan by:

  1. Evaluate students' progress with valid and reliable methods.
  2. Communicate the criteria for evaluation initially in Course to students.
  3. Inform students of progress at specified times and whenever necessary.
  4. Maintain objective, accurate and timely records.
  5. Evaluate course work by critiquing learning materials and learning experiences.
  6. Provide opportunity for student evaluation.
  7. Inform administration of any additional teaching employment, military duties/military leave of absence, and jury duties.




Adjunct Faculty qualifications require a minimum educational preparation of a Masters Degree with major in nursing. Current expertise in nursing practice andeducation are required which may be evidenced through a minimum of two years ofclinical nursing practice, previous teaching in a nursing education program, previous supervisory experience, and certification in clinical practice. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois and if applicable, Iowa, along with current CPR certification are mandatory.
