    POSITION SUMMARY


    The Food Service Tech is responsible for the provision of timely meal service to patient’s hospital associates and customers of the Café and other services during the evening/night hours. The Food Service Tech promotes quality care and customer satisfaction by actively supporting the hospital mission and vision in completing daily tasks.  The Food Service Tech completes all job responsibilities in accordance with established procedures of the department and hospital including safety and sanitation guidelines.  This position is under the supervision of the Dining Service Supervisors who report to the Retail Manager  and  the managers of Patient Services and  Production Services.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (eg. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff.
    • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
    • Daily set up, storage, delivery and serving of food and clean up to patient and customers so that task are completed within scheduled time.
    • Serves food in proper portion with appropriate utensil and according to menu.
    • Uses the cash register and fills out remittance cash slips.
    • Contributes to the high standards of quality food production techniques to ensure safe, nutritious, well presented food in all areas of service.
    • Uses equipment such as the grill, convection ovens, slicer, and chopper to prepare and cook food items.
    • Will assist in the delivery/clean up/tear down of catering functions after hours.
    • Will be solely responsible for Dining Service Department sales and service after dinner serving hours.
    • Works independently and/or alone without supervision.
    • Ensures safe food handling, practicing proper handwashing and use of gloves according to procedures. Monitors food and equipment temperatures. Adheres to departmental guidelines regarding uniforms and hair restraints.
    • Maintains confidentiality and respects the individual differences of others. Refers non-routine situations to the appropriate person.
    • Participates in periodic inservice / training programs according to hospital and departmental policy. Participates in initial and ongoing competency assessment as required.
    • Completes other duties and tasks as assigned. Maintains a sense of responsibility and cooperativeness in assuming duties other than those routinely assigned. Demonstrates a willingness to accept change to improve services provided.
    • Uses effective communication skills to interact with patients, associates, families, customers and other team members in a cooperative, courteous manner. Resolves problems related to food and services provided and/or refers non-routine situations to appropriate person.

    PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

     

    Education

    • Reading, writing and mathematical skills at level normally acquired through completion of high school or equivalent preferred. Current enrollment in high school acceptable

    Qualifications/Experience

    • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
