Overview

PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION:

 

Coordinates the physical therapy plan following completion of the assessment as defined by Iowa Licensure requirements.  Provides and delegates clinical rehabilitation services to improve functional outcomes, focusing on gait training, mobility, pain control, strengthening, balance, and coordination activities.  Acts as a resource to the interdisciplinary team, applying skills of the profession to improve outcomes of persons served.  Actions are team oriented to successfully provide quality care and a high level of satisfaction for persons served through evidence - based practice.

Supervisor of assigned department.

 

SUPERVISES:

No one.

 

Provides daily direction to patient care support personnel as defined in the Iowa Physical Therapy Regulations and Practice Act.  May provide clinical supervision to PT/PTA students and PTAs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Indicate the following after each function (as O, F or C):

Occasional

Activity up to 33% of an 8-hour shift (up to 2 hr and 38 minutes of a shift)

Frequent

Activity 33-66% of an 8-hour shift (2hr and 38m to 5hr and 17 minutes of a shift)

Constant

Activity 66-100% of an 8-hour shift (5hr and 17minutes to 8 hrs of a shift)

  • Evaluates gait training, mobility, pain control, strengthening, balance, and coordination activities, sets goals, implements treatment, and monitors response of persons served for diagnosis requiring physical therapy interventions.  Supports evidence - based practices.  (C)
  • Coordinates plan of treatment with persons served, families and other disciplines. (C)
  • Accurately documents and bills according to regulatory and third party requirements.  Documentation and billing for services exhibit an understanding of requirements and ethical practices. (C)

·         Reports any questions or concerns regarding compliance immediately to the attention of department or organization/hospital administrative staff. (C)

  • Manages resources effectively to meet the needs of persons served while eliminating waste. (C)
  • Manages personal and professional skills and knowledge, sharing expertise with others to enhance the overall skill level of the profession. (F)
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. (C)
  • Integrates and demonstrates CORE values and Expectations for Personal and Service Excellence to guide professional behaviors, while adhering to the policies and procedures of UPH-DM. (C)
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; open and objective to other’s views; gives them welcome feedback; contributes to positive team goals; and puts the success of the team above own interests. (C)
  • Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. (C)
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department by regular, reliable attendance. (C)
  • Practice reflects knowledge of CARF, DIA, HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. (C)

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS: The following are performed on an as needed basis:

 

  • This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH-DM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System.  Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.
  • Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION: 

  • Graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
  • Must read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (written and orally) with people of diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds.

 

EXPERIENCE:

None.

Therapy Resource Pool:

  • One year of clinical experience as a Physical Therapist preferred.
  • Experience with pediatric and adult geriatric populations preferred.

 

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed to practice Physical Therapy in the state of Iowa as defined in the Iowa Physical Therapy Regulation and Practice Act.
  • Younker Inpatient Rehab – Iowa Chauffeur’s license in good standing is required if transporting patients in a vehicle.
