Paramedic / EMT  - Emergency Services / Emergency Department


Position is Part Time: 16 hours per week.




  • Provides quality patient care utilizing a thorough knowledge and appropriate administration of ACLS protocols and the Paramedics role in patient care for patients of all ages in the pre-hospital setting and in the Emergency Department.
  • Diagnoses and treats emergency medical situations with appropriate techniques, resources, and equipment, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care according to the current hospital protocol.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of current Paramedic standards of care along with equipment use and function.
  • Maintains comprehensive perception of Fort Dodge streets, mapping, and grid book system while demonstrating excellent driving judgement and due regard for public safety during operation and positioning of unit.
  • Keeps the unit and equipment clean, organized, and ready after each response as well as maintaining proper fuel, fluid, and tire pressure levels. Report damage or malfunctions on the proper forms daily.
  • Maintains a good cooperative working environment with area agencies, Fort Dodge Police Department, Fort Dodge Fire Department, Dispatch etc.
  • Documents care consistent with documentation guidelines.
  • Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
  • Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, standards development and review, hospital committees and other related activities.
  • Demonstrates positive customer relation skills.
  • Adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.  




Education:                   Successful completion of a Paramedic  or EMT program.

Licensure:                   Valid Iowa Chauffeur’s license.  Certified with National and IA state EMS registry.

Skills/Abilities:             Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships, adapt to change, evaluate critically and think creatively. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all ages. Must demonstrate effective communication skills.  

Certification/Courses: Iowa Paramedic Certification   Basic Life Support, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS
