Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Surgery Center Control Desk Specialist will assist the nursing and medical staff with day-to-day operations of the Operating Room. He/she will participate in marketing the Operating Room through efficiency in communication. The Operating Room Control Desk Specialist will work closely with the Business Office Manager, Director of Nursing, nursing staff, surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure high quality communication and scheduling of surgical procedures. He/she is in a key position to market the surgical program through direct interactions with the medical staff and their office personnel.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Receptionist

 

 

  • Answers the phone and intercom promptly and courteously.
  • Relays messages accurately and timely.
  • Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication patterns.
  • Respects patient confidentiality in all communication.
  • Directs nursing and medical staff concerns to the appropriate Supervisor.
  • Obtains accurate information from medical staff for the addition of cases to the surgery schedule and informs Director of Nursing and/or charge nurse immediately.

 

 

Marketing of Surgical Services

 

  • Continually works out programs that make it easier for surgeons, their office staff and other affected departments to be informed of the surgery schedule.
  • Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communications, which includes attempting to meet the medical and nursing staff needs whenever possible.
  • Develops and maintains a positive working environment, supporting open communication with and respect for all members of the health care team.

 

 

Data Entry and Retrieval Procedures

  •  Facilitates accurate and complete data entry and recovery for Surgical Services using the SIS computer system for various projects as indicated by the Business Office Manager.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate files and continually updates information in the SIS system.
  • Schedules procedures accurately using the SIS system, creating the correct surgeon preference card.
  • Protects patient confidentiality at all times.

 

 

Qualifications

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

 

Education B. Qualifications/Experience

Working knowledge of computer systems, multiple phones lines and data entry.     

Medical secretary degree preferred. Minimum of 2 years in an office setting/health related field.
