Younker Rehabilitation is a 23-bed Acute Rehabilitation Facility – a Rehabilitation hospital within Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Younker Rehabilitation is committed to helping patients improve their ability to function and become as independent as possible and return to community living. We specialize in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, limb loss, and complex medical condition rehabilitation.
Clinical Excellence & Patient Care
Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
Develops and implements a plan of care by providing nursing care and education directly or thorough ancillary personnel, as needed, to maintain and restore function and prevent complications and further loss.
Collaborates with the health care team to assure the provision of optimal client care by participating in interdisciplinary team meetings, and incorporating the team’s recommendations into the client’s plan of care.
Utilizes critical thinking to make independent judgements. Maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of the conditions of assigned patients.
Prompt and accurate documentation within the legal record of patient’s care to support reimbursement according to regulatory and third party requirements. Documentation and billing for services exhibit an understanding of requirements and ethical practices.
Evaluates the nursing care that is being provided and modifies the plan, as needed, to achieve measurable goals and objectives in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
Advocates and supports the rights of patients and families with care decisions.
Practice reflects knowledge of federal/state regulatory and accrediting agencies, i.e. Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals (DIA).
Clinical Excellence and Patient Education
Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
Integrates and reinforces rehabilitation techniques with nursing knowledge to prepare the patient and family for discharge.
Application of specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, and independent decision making aimed at meeting the special and unique needs of each individual served.
Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Graduate of accredited nursing program
6 months of hospital clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency.
Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
