Join a compassionate Hematology Oncology clinic team in a rewarding outpatient setting. This full-time RN position offers a consistent Monday-Friday day schedule with no nights or weekends, providing excellent work-life balance. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to patients and families while practicing in accordance with Iowa Nursing Regulations, the ANA Code for Nurses, and UnityPoint Health's Professional Nurse Practice Model. • Answers questions and provides teaching as appropriate to scope and licensure or as directed by provider to patients and family members regarding health maintenance and medical illnesses
• Documents appropriate information in the patient’s electronic chart. Complete patient forms and requests medical records/correspondence to be scanned into the electronic health record.
• Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing.
• Assesses needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
• Assist provider with patient examination, procedures and emergencies.
• Provide and document advice for home care of illness/condition conducting follow up phone calls regarding patient’s health and progress as directed by provider.
• Perform diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
• Prepare and assist provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor procedures and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider as appropriate to scope and licensure
• Demonstrate knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately
• Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps as directed, and as appropriate to scope and licensure.
• Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
• Understand inpatient and outpatient specialty procedures.
• Responsible for compliance with precertification requirements.
• Utilizes protocols to triage and address patient concerns and symptoms. Appropriately seeks direction from provider regarding illness related calls.
• Maintain inventory for clinical supplies.

No oncology experience? That’s okay! We welcome RNs from a variety of backgrounds. Our team provides comprehensive training and mentorship to help you build confidence and develop expertise in oncology nursing. You’ll learn symptom management and patient education—all while being supported by experienced oncology professionals every step of the way. At least one year of RN experience in an acute care or clinic setting is required.

Education:

Graduate of accredited nursing program.

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Commitment to obtain OCN or seek oncology-specific continuing education within 2 years.

Maintain current licensure in to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa. 

Must maintain BLS

Oncology certification (OCN) preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
