Based in Des Moines, Iowa's capital and largest metro, our radiation oncology program is growing, investing in advanced technology, and building for the future. Whether you're finishing your residency and ready for your first role, or you're an experienced physicist looking for a place to lead, teach, and build something lasting, there's room for you to grow here.

Why You'll Want to Be Here

  • Build your career in Iowa's largest market. Des Moines is home to our flagship radiation oncology team, with the strength and resources of a health system that includes seven cancer centers across Iowa.
  • Join a program that's growing. Our team practices general radiation oncology and is working toward subspecialties. We're also planning a new cancer center over the next decade.
  • Work with advanced technology. You'll use new treatment machines and high-end equipment. Our team handles complex cases, including radiopharmaceutical therapies.
  • Use one connected Varian system. Our radiation oncology sites share one Varian system, so workflows and data stay consistent.
  • Take part in clinical trials. You'll help bring new treatments to patients close to home.
  • Help build our future residency. We plan to launch a medical physics residency program as our team grows. If you'd like to teach and mentor, you can help build it.

Early in Your Career?

If you've recently finished residency, you'll start your career in Des Moines working with modern technology and complex cases. You'll learn from a supportive team that values growth, and you can help shape a program as it expands, which few early-career physicists get to do.

Already an Experienced Physicist?

Bring your experience to a program that's still growing, where your ideas can make a difference. You can help grow our subspecialty services, help plan our future cancer center, and take a lead role in building a future residency program. If you enjoy mentoring, you'll find plenty of chances to do it here.

What You'll Do

  • Provide clinical medical physics support for our Des Moines radiation oncology program
  • Support treatment planning, quality assurance, and safe delivery of standard and complex treatments, including radiopharmaceutical therapies
  • Partner with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and nurses to deliver excellent patient care
  • Help with clinical trials, adopting new technology, and growing subspecialty services
  • Help mentor and train others, and support the development of a future residency program

What We're Looking For

  • Master's or doctoral degree in medical physics or a related field
  • Completed a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency
  • ABR certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics, or board-eligible and actively working toward certification
  • New graduates and experienced physicists are both welcome to apply
  • A collaborative, growth-minded approach and an interest in helping build something bigger
