Open position: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)

Sign-on bonus: $10,000

Shift: Days or nights, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m., with weekend and holiday rotation.

Role Details

Behavioral Health Registered Nurse

The Behavioral Health RN provides individualized nursing care for geriatric psychiatric patients, assessing mental and physical health needs, administering medications and treatments, monitoring responses to care, and promoting a safe therapeutic environment. The nurse uses therapeutic communication, de-escalation, crisis intervention, patient and family education, and close collaboration with physicians, social workers, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for geriatric psychiatric patients.

  • Monitor and document patient progress, behaviors, and responses to interventions.

  • Provide patient and family education to support understanding of treatment plans and recovery goals.

  • Promote safety by implementing de-escalation strategies, crisis intervention, and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with physicians, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Must obtain BSN within 12 years of hire)

Certification/License:

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or within three (3) months from date of hire
