Overview

Location: Within the geographical footprint of IA, IL, or WI. Position will be able to work remotely, but will require travel to various UPH markets

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1.0 FTE

 

We're seeking a Manager Employee Relations to join our Human Resources Team. In this role, you'll provide system wide leadership, direction, and consultation for employee relations activities across UnityPoint Health. This position serves as one of the system’s authority on the equitable and consistent application of Human Resources policies and practices and ensures adherence to applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations. The Manager, Employee Relations serves as a strategic partner to the business by providing leadership for employee relations, labor relations and provider relations functions

Additionally, you'll partner with leadership, the General Counsel’s Office, Labor Relations leadership, CMOs, and Human Resources Centers of Excellence (COEs) to deliver programs, and education that support workforce engagement, legal compliance, and organizational performance. Acting as a trusted advisor and thought partner at all levels, the Manager, Employee Relations provides expert guidance on leadership effectiveness, performance management, change management, and workplace culture. The role develops and executes initiatives that strengthen the employee experience, mitigate risk, and align with UnityPoint Health’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

 
  • Lead enterprise-wide employee relations strategy, programs, and team performance
  • Ensure compliance with provider contracts, collective bargaining agreements, and HR policies
  • Build trusted relationships with operational leaders, HR partners, unions, and legal counsel
  • Lead labor relations activities, including union partnerships, grievance resolution, and collective bargaining support
  • Oversee complex employee relations investigations involving discrimination, harassment, workplace complaints, and policy violations
  • Respond to EEOC charges, regulatory inquiries, and high-profile employee relations matters in collaboration with legal counsel.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, ERISA, HIPAA, EEO, and Affirmative Action requirements.
  • Develop and deliver leadership training on employment law, conflict resolution, investigations, mediation, and HR best practices.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Employee Relations team members while establishing clear performance expectations.
  • Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence and system-wide committees to align people strategies with organizational goals and values.

 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or related field is required

 

Experience:

  • Required:
    • 5 or more years’ experience in providing Human Resources services, solutions, and leadership in roles of various levels of size, complexity, business model maturity, etc.
    • 3 or more years' experience in providing Employee Relations services and solutions
  • Preferred:
    • Prior experience successfully coaching, developing, and leading a team of Human Resources professionals
    • Demonstrated ability to influence, lead, and manage projects in a heavily matrix environment
    • Possesses excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization, with an ability to persuade and influence, and the ability to build enthusiasm and commitment
    • Process-oriented & problem solver with solid quantitative and analytical skills
    • Prior Healthcare experience
