Employment options: Opportunities are available at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, and Methodist West Hospital. PRN, part-time, and full-time.

Shift options: Day, midday, and evening schedules, with every-other-weekend rotations

Example hours: 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., 11:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m., 10:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m., and 4:00–8:00 p.m. Hours vary by role and campus.

Available Roles:

Dietetic Clerk

Help patients choose meals that follow their prescribed diets and documented food allergies. Enter nutrition orders in CBORD, update menus, coordinate nourishments and enteral feedings, verify meal accuracy, process guest meal payments, and communicate with clinical and dietary teams. Strong customer service and attention to detail are important.

Food Service Worker

Prepare, assemble, deliver, and clean up meals and food items for patients, visitors, and team members. Follow department procedures, food safety and sanitation guidelines, and customer service standards to provide safe, timely, and accurate service.

Food Service Host/Hostess

Provide dietary services to patient care areas while maintaining high-quality standards. Serve and store food according to menu and diet procedures, clean and sanitize equipment and work areas, and help deliver safe, nutritious meals to patients, visitors, and team members.

Dietetic Clerk

• Assist patients with meal selections via room service call center, ensuring courteous, accurate, and timely responses 
• Apply basic diet knowledge to evaluate meal choices for compliance with dietary restrictions and medical guidelines 
• Use nutrition services software to record orders, update patient counts, and support production needs 
• Take patient and guest meal orders, balancing customer satisfaction with hospital dietary policies 
• Collaborate with Dietitians and clinical staff to support patient nutrition needs and enhance satisfaction 
• Assemble and transport patient meal trays, serve meals using AIDET and proper patient identifiers 
• Maintain pantry inventory, follow food safety practices, and assist with nourishment prep, cleaning, and dishwashing 
• Provide friendly, responsible customer service while supporting overall kitchen and foodservice operations 

Food Service Worker duties include:

• Prepare, assemble, and deliver patient trays, snacks, and nourishments per diet specifications  Serve patients, guests, and cafeteria customers with excellent customer service  
• Follow portion control, cash handling, and regulatory standards (HIPAA, OSHA, TJC)  
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including cleaning and sanitizing dishes, utensils, equipment, and carts  
• Stock patient units, retail areas, and storage rooms, and monitor food and equipment temperatures  

Food Service Host/Hostess duties include:

• Provide excellent customer service by assisting patients with meals, explaining diets, delivering trays, and responding to requests 
• Ensure patient and workplace safety, follow infection control and food safety standards, and maintain cleanliness of kitchens and pantries 
• Communicate with nursing staff regarding patient care needs and verify tray accuracy and completeness 
• Order, stock, and rotate food and supplies, maintain refrigeration logs, and manage inventory according to established par levels 
• Support training, follow service standards (AIDET), and perform other unit-specific duties as assigned 

Education:   

• Currently enrolled in high school or equivalent required.  
• Preferred: High School Diploma/GED  

Experience:   

• Food Handler Certification • SERVSAFE upon hire  
• IA/IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire.   
• IA/IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing Care required within 90 days of hire.   
• Basic Life Support • American Heart Association *Required for PACE only
