Overview

The Manager RN II has 24 hour accountability and responsibility for the Clinical Staffing Department, Bed Flow, Internal Resource Team, Schedulers, and Telesitters.  The manager is responsible for creating safe, healthy environments that support the work of the health care team and contribute to patient engagement.  The manager assists in creating a professional environment where team members are able to contribute to optimal staffing and patient outcomes throughout the organization. The Manager RN collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and hospital leadership to set strategic goals, implement evidence-based practices, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and accountability for the overall performance of assigned inpatient unit(s).
  • Establish strategic priorities, goals, and performance standards that support excellence in patient care and staff engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate departmental outcomes, including quality, safety, patient experience, and financial performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory/accreditation requirements (e.g., DNV, CMS).
  • Partner with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based care practices.
  • Lead initiatives to improve patient safety, care quality, and service delivery across the department.
  • Utilize data and performance metrics to guide decision-making and achieve departmental goals.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a skilled nursing workforce to meet patient care needs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coach staff, and address performance issues in alignment with hospital policy.
  • Support professional growth through mentorship, continuing education, and leadership opportunities.
  • Oversee departmental budget and resource utilization to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with leadership on operational and capital planning to support departmental goals.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • BCLS within 90 days
  • IA Mandabory Reporter- Adult and Child

Experience:

  • 3 years clinical nursing experience in an inpatient hospital setting
  • 2 years prior leadership or management experience

Other: 

  • Level 2 Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, pushing or pulling arm or leg controls or maintaining a production rate pace.
