As a Certified Surgical Technologist II, you will support complex surgical procedures, apply advanced technical knowledge, and serve as a mentor to developing team members. Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by assembling instruments, equipment, and supplies to meet surgeon preferences and patient needs. 
  • Maintain a sterile environment and uphold the highest standards of patient safety, infection prevention, and surgical excellence. 
  • Anticipate surgeon needs during procedures by passing instruments, managing equipment, and providing skilled intraoperative support. 
  • Perform patient preparation, positioning, surgical counts, specimen handling, and postoperative support with precision and attention to detail. 
  • Respond confidently in complex and emergency surgical cases, applying advanced critical-thinking and technical skills. 
  • Assist with operating room turnover, inventory management, and readiness of surgical equipment and supplies. 
  • Serve as a mentor and preceptor for new staff, students, and surgical team members. 
  • Support onboarding of new surgeons, implementation of new technology, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards. 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High school diploma or GED required.  
  • Graduate from an accredited education program for Surgical Technology, OR graduate from an appropriate training program in the US Armed Forces OR Medical Certification OR completion of accredited LPN program required. 

Experience: 

  • One (1) year of previous surgical technologist or equivalent experience required.  

License(s)/Certification(s): 

  • Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association required.  
  • Certified Surgical Technologist obtained within one year through one of the following required: 
    • National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting  
    • National Center for Competency Testing  
    • Current Licensed Practical Nurse in the state(s) of practice, including eligibility under a NLC multistate license required upon hire.  
    • Dual licensed positions must obtain and submit proof of dual licensure within 90 days of hire/transfer; proof of application is acceptable during this period.  
  • IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required. 
  • IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required. 
  • IA Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required. 
  • IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required.
