Overview

Provides nursing leadership and operational oversight for stroke and sepsis programs, partnering with interdisciplinary teams to implement evidence-based protocols, monitor performance, and drive continuous quality improvement. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, including maintaining Primary Stroke Center certification, through effective data management, staff education, and process optimization.

Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Provide clinical and operational direction and leadership to ensure continuation and development of Primary Stroke Center certification in accordance with American Stroke Association.
  • Provide clinical and operational direction and leadership to ensure continuation of the sepsis program.
  • Maintain familiarity with the criteria and regulatory requirements for the care of patients with sepsis and for a Stroke Certification Program.
  • Remain current in stroke and sepsis best practice protocols and act as a primary liaison to medical personnel, physicians, and other practitioners
  • Serves as a liaison between Medical Director, administration and the Stroke and Sepsis teams.
  • Chair Stroke and Sepsis Committee meetings
  • Responsible for agenda, meeting reminders, attendance tracking and minute taking; ensure follow-up of action plans.

Data Collection

  • Collect, document and review stroke and sepsis data.
  • Analyze deficiencies and inconsistencies in program metrics.
  • Identify trends and ensure recommendations are implemented for change in practice based on evidence-based medicine, standards of care and regulatory factors.

Education

  • Promote and monitor a system of communication and education among physicians and practitioners to create understanding of best practices in patients diagnosed with stroke or sepsis.
  • Educate staff and participate in educational sessions on stroke and sepsis issues.
  • Participate in developing and reviewing written policies, procedures and protocols concerning stroke and sepsis care
  • Communicate pertinent information regarding policies to all concerned.
  • Advise hospital administration on operational and technical matters pertaining to the Stroke and Sepsis Programs.
  • Participate in community outreach education.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s in Nursing
  • Training or experience in the medical management of stroke and sepsis patients.
  • Valid RN license in the state(s) of practice, including eligibility under a NLC multistate license.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS)
