The Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for all UnityPoint Health properties. This role monitors hospital buildings and premises to prevent theft, vandalism, unauthorized intruders, and protects patients, team members, and visitors. The Security Officer provides input in developing security procedures, which address the day-to-day physical security needs of the Unity Point Health System.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent theft, vandalism, fire, and unauthorized access.  
  • Monitors visitors, questions or escorts unauthorized persons, and responds to security incidents.  
  • Operates and manages security systems, including cameras, alarms, access control, and infant/wandering alert systems.  
  • Maintains logs, incident reports, and documents body-worn camera recordings.  
  • De-escalates high-tension situations using professional techniques and security tools as needed.  
  • Performs additional safety and security duties as assigned to protect patients, staff, and visitors. 

Qualifications

Education:  

  • High School Diploma/GED 

Experience:  

  • Preferred: Military, Law Enforcement, or medical/customer service background. 

License(s)/Certification(s):  

  • Valid driver’s license required. 
  • Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire. 
  • Completion of Advanced De-Escalation required within 90 days of hire. 
    • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 
  • IA/IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire. 
  • IA/IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire.
