Overview

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems that support a healthcare environment. Systems include HVAC, boilers, refrigeration, emergency generators, plumbing, medical gases, fire and safety systems, and building automation equipment. The role ensures all facilities systems function reliably to support patient care, safety, and comfort for patients, visitors, and staff, contributing directly to a well-maintained and dependable hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Bring a team-first mindset, collaborating effectively with Facilities staff while contributing to shared goals, positive communication, and continuous improvement. 
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on building systems including HVAC, boilers, emergency generators, cogeneration equipment, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. 
  • Support installation and maintenance of new equipment while troubleshooting issues and determining appropriate repair methods, materials, and solutions. 
  • Maintain and service critical infrastructure such as chilled and hot water systems, building automation systems, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems. 
  • Ensure accurate documentation of work performed, including labor hours, materials used, and equipment maintenance records within work order systems. 
  • Apply strong judgment and initiative to prioritize tasks, complete assignments efficiently, and respond to changing operational needs. 
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulatory standards while maintaining proper care and use of tools, equipment, and facilities. 
  • Communicate proactively with supervisors and team members to support smooth operations and recommend improvements to maintenance practices. 
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with industry standards and enhance technical expertise. 
  • Support emergency response efforts as part of the facility’s incident command structure, assisting with critical operations during urgent situations. 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Completion of a trade school course or trade apprenticeship program is desirable but not mandatory. 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of five years of experience in operations.
  • Must be familiar with plant operating techniques as applied to systems and equipment required. 
  • Hospital experience is desirable but not mandatory. 

License(s)/Certification(s): 

  • Valid driver's license for work-related driving required. 
  • Valid auto insurance required when driving a personal vehicle.
