Overview

Play a critical role in patient safety behind the scenes as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician I. In this position, you will clean, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and medical devices to support safe and effective clinical care. You’ll ensure compliance with infection control standards and regulatory guidelines while maintaining accurate documentation for traceability. Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe, accurate, and efficient reprocessing of surgical instruments and equipment by performing decontamination, cleaning, assembly, inspection, sterilization, and storage in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and infection control standards.  
  • Operate and configure specialized decontamination and sterilization equipment, verify tray accuracy using content lists, and remove defective instruments from service for repair. 
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and deliver sterile supplies to designated storage locations to support seamless surgical operations. 
  • Monitor sterilization and decontamination equipment performance, complete required testing, and perform routine maintenance to ensure reliability and compliance.  
  • Accurately document each step of the reprocessing cycle to maintain traceability, meet regulatory requirements, and support quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives. 
  • Stay current on infection prevention standards, sterilization practices, and organizational policies through ongoing learning and training while consistently adhering to safety and regulatory expectations. 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.  

Experience: 

  • At least one (1) year of sterile processing experience is preferred.  

License(s)/Certification(s): 

  • Must be certified through one of the following within two (2) year of hire: 
    • Certified Registered Central Service Technician - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) 
    • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician - Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD)  
    • Certified Surgical Technologist - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)  
    • Surgical Technician-Certified is acceptable in conjunction with CRCST or CSPDT - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)  
  • IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required. 
  • IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required. 
  • IA Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing carerequired. 
  • IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing carerequired.
