Join UnityPoint Health as a Chaplain Resident and begin a transformative journey in Clinical Pastoral Education. In this accredited residency, you will provide supervised spiritual and emotional care to patients, families, and team members of all faiths or none while developing core chaplaincy skills. You will support individuals facing serious illness, grief, and complex decisions, working closely with interdisciplinary teams to promote whole-person healing. This role blends meaningful service with structured learning and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate spiritual care through assessments, interventions, and follow-up for patients and families across care settings. 
  • Respond to consultations involving crisis situations, trauma, end-of-life care, and ethical concerns with empathy and professionalism. 
  • Participate fully in an accredited CPE residency program, including supervision, seminars, peer learning, case presentations, and reflective practice. 
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary clinical teams to integrate spiritual and emotional support into patient care planning. 
  • Document spiritual care interactions accurately within the electronic health record. 
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide timely spiritual support when needed. 
  • Offer support to staff through debriefings, presence, and critical incident response to promote resilience and wellbeing. 
  • Assist with services, memorials, educational offerings, and special events that support patients, families, and staff. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with community clergy and faith partners to enhance holistic care. 
  • Engage in quality improvement activities, meetings, and ongoing professional development. 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Master’s degree preferred.  
  • One (1) successfully completed unit of CPE for admission into the full-year residency required 

Experience: 

  • One (1) year of experience providing spiritual care is preferred. 
  • One (1) year of experience providing spiritual care in hospital settingpreferred. 

License(s)/Certification(s): 

  • IL & IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required 
  • IL & IA Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required
