Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during patient exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Room patients, obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and other pertinent clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Perform point-of-care testing, specimen collection, and other clinical tasks within scope of practice
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments per scope of licensure
  • Prepare patients for exams and procedures and provide support throughout their visit
  • Educate patients on medications, treatments, preventive care, and follow-up instructions
  • Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and communication with patients as needed
  • Support ongoing care for patients with acute and chronic health conditions
  • Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and a positive clinic experience
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment
  • Work collaboratively with providers and the care team to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (Certificate, diploma, or Associate’s Degree) required.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following required:
    • National Healthcare Association
    • American Association of Medical Assistants
    • National Center for Competency Testing
    • National Certified Medical Assistant
    • National Association of Health Professionals
    • American Registry of Medical Assistants
    • American Allied Health
    • American Medical Technologists
  • Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred
  • Familiarity with EPIC a plus!
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with patients and families
  • For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
