As a Sterile Processing Technician I, you will play a critical role in the reprocessing, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical devices. Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, clean, inspect, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment following manufacturer guidelines and infection prevention standards.  
  • Operate washer/disinfectors and other decontamination equipment to ensure safe, effective instrument processing.  
  • Accurately assemble instrument trays using count sheets and tray content lists.  
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality, removing damaged items and coordinating repairs as needed.  
  • Perform sterilization and high-level disinfection using steam, vaporized hydrogen peroxide, and other approved methods.  
  • Configure, test, monitor, and maintain sterilization equipment to ensure optimal performance and regulatory compliance.  
  • Maintain organized, sterile storage and work areas that support safe handling and distribution of supplies.  
  • Deliver processed instruments and supplies to designated storage locations for timely clinical use.  
  • Complete detailed documentation throughout the reprocessing cycle to ensure traceability, quality assurance, and compliance.  
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and stay current on sterilization, infection prevention, and industry best practices. 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.  

Experience: 

  • At least one (1) year of sterile processing experience is preferred.  

License(s)/Certification(s): 

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician – The Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Central Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) – Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Inc. (CBSPD) preferred.  
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required 
  • IL & IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire. 
  • IL & IA Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire.
