As a Telemetry/Monitor Technician, you’ll be the watchful eyes behind the monitor, providing continuous surveillance of patient telemetry and recognizing important changes in cardiac rhythms and related parameters. You’ll use your expertise and keen clinical awareness to identify abnormalities, document findings accurately, and quickly alert the care team when something needs attention.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms and assigned physiologic parameters and responds immediately and appropriately to monitor observations.
  • Interprets and measures cardiac rhythms and documents tracings/strips per departmental standards within centralized monitoring systems.
  • Notifies nursing/clinicians promptly of rate/rhythm changes and significant trends according to clinician/provider orders and unit guidelines.
  • Uses clear, complete and timely communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient status and maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer, discharge, and documentation of patient information from centralized monitoring.
  • Collaborates with unit nurse/clinician accurate patient/device associations.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains alarm systems and supplies and escalates equipment issues as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diplonma or Equivalent is required
  • Satisfactory completion of cardiac arrhythmia/EKG classes with ability to interpret cardiac rhythms within six months of hire is required
  • Prior coursework in medical terminology or medical office is preferred

Experience:

  • Less than one year of nursing assistant experience or prior clerical experience in a healthcare setting is preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • IA & IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care is required
  • IA & IL Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care is required
