A Radiology Tech is a Diagnostic Radiographer, who under the direction of the Director of Radiology or the assigned Supervisor, is responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures on patients of all ages which requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis and for assuming responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures, including general, surgical, portable, and tomography exams, while maintaining radiation safety and patient identification standards.
  • Provide safe, compassionate patient care, including positioning, transport, appropriate nursing procedures, contrast/medication assistance, and communication with physicians and nursing staff.
  • Accurately document exams and patient information in the RIS, maintain efficient patient flow, and complete exams in a timely manner.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot imaging equipment while ensuring equipment and work areas are clean, safe, and ready for use.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nursing, transportation, and administrative staff; assist with student education and department needs, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

  • Holds Permit-to-Practice radiology in the state of Iowa.
  • Certified and holds current registration with the A.R.R.T. as a Radiologic Technologist.
    • Includes those currently pursuing registration in Mammography, CT, or MRI. If pursuing the Mammography, CT, or MRI tract, the technologist is required to successfully obtain their modality A.R.R.T. board examination within 18 months of completion of the orientation program

  • Must be able to read and write English.
