Overview

The Tech Assistant works alongside the MRI Technologist. The Tech Assistant safely moves patients to and from hospital areas and the Imaging Services Department in a wheelchair or on a stretcher cart while strictly adhering to MRI safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Safely transports patients to and from hospital areas and departments utilizing proper equipment (wheelchair or cart) appropriate to the patient’s condition and lifting techniques.
  • Promptly transports patient to destination and notifies patient arrival to designated individual.
  • Performs patient transfers with approved transfer mobility equipment when appropriate.
  • For the safety of our patients and co-workers, St. Luke’s Hospital requires seasonal and job-related vaccinations. This is reviewed regularly during periodic health assessments.
  • Tech Assistants may transport contrast media to inpatients, ED patients 6000-44
  • Follows all MRI safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Departmental Support

  • Communicates effectively inter- and intra-departmentally with other healthcare professionals and customers to provide accurate, timely information and to reduce problems and minimize exceptions.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and workspace and reports equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
  • Understands requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent education required.

Previous patient care experience is preferred.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within three (3) months from date of hire.
