Overview

The Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of floor surfaces throughout the healthcare facility. This role involves operating specialized floor maintenance equipment, performing routine and deep cleaning procedures, and supporting environmental services in ensuring a hygienic environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The technician also assists with emergency response duties, adheres to safety and infection prevention protocols, and contributes to the overall upkeep of the facility by reporting maintenance needs and supporting special cleaning projects as needed.

Responsibilities

Education

  • Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff.
  • Successfully completes hospital-wide orientation, annual hospital competencies and department/unit specific competencies.
  • For the safety of our patients and co-workers, St. Luke’s Hospital requires seasonal and job related vaccinations. This is reviewed regularly during periodic health assessments.

Customer Service

  • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
  • Promote a professional image of the department while making sure each customer’s experience at St. Luke’s is as positive and comforting as possible.

Key Accountability

  • Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedule and using prescribed methods.
  • Extract carpeted areas and recognize cause and material of soiling to remove with proper chemicals or processes.
  • Take down and rehang drapes and cubicles.
  • Report to scene of each fire or fire drill.
  • Prepared hard surface floors for finish application. Process may be shower scrubbing or stripping to ensure floor is prepared for finish.
  • Maintain assigned equipment for cleanliness and have repairs made when needed.
  • Maintain grounds as assigned.
  • Move furniture, beds, and set up meeting rooms.
  • Transport furniture off-site to appropriate areas.
  • Completes total room cleaning on annual basis and maintains recordkeeping for completion.
  • Uses carpet and hard surface floor equipment as specified.
  • Observe and report the need for repairs to hospital equipment, furniture, building and fixtures.
  • Use cardboard bailer as needed.
  • Perform other tasks, which may be assigned by Lead or Supervisor.
