Overview

Patient Mobility Specialist

UnityPoint - St. Luke's - Sioux City Downtown

Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7am-3pm

 

Under general supervision, supports safe patient handling and mobility by assisting care teams with ambulation, transfers, and repositioning. Models correct techniques and body mechanics, ensure proper use of lift equipment, and provides coaching and education to promote safe, effective patient movement for both patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes toward accomplishment of the patient’s Plan of Care by providing mobility and care activities as assigned by the care team.
  • Provides assistance to persons served and their family to learn to safely manage personal care while increasing activity, strength, and endurance.
  • Collaborates with the patient and their support team, reinforcing therapy and mobility initiatives to promote functional progress and safe transitions.
  • Demonstrates competence in the implementation of age-appropriate care in accordance with established Practice Guidelines, Policies/Procedures and State/Federal Law in regard to hygiene, nutritional, elimination, and activity measures as well as non-sterile/non-invasive procedures, oxygen setup, simple dressings, traction set-up, blood glucose testing, measuring and recording vital signs, and non-sterile specimen collection.
  • Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age and needs of the patients served.
  • Promotes professional rehabilitation/mobility objectives among interdisciplinary team members.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required. 

Experience: 

  • Prior related health care experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior Training International Inc (MOAB) within 90 days of hire.
  • CNA preferred
