The dietetic clerk assists patients in selecting meal items and processes nutrition orders through data entry into the food and nutrition software program (CBORD). The dietetic clerk ensures patient safety by following the prescribed diet while excluding food allergies listed in the patient’s medical record. The dietetic clerk modifies patient menus, fulfills nourishments and enteral feedings, confirms accuracy of patient meal creation, processes payment for guest meals, and communicates with clinical and dietary staff to assist with patients’ specific dietary needs. The dietetic clerk provides exemplary customer service to patients and other departments.

Answers telephone promptly and courteously, responds appropriately. Records data received and directs to appropriate person or area.
• Takes patient and guest orders for meal selections. Follows diet compliances and is able to evaluate meal selections for adherence to special diet restrictions.
• Prioritizes patient requests and responds promptly. Communicates special needs/problems to the dietitian, diet technician, food service supervisor or clinical nutrition operations manager.
• Interact with healthcare practitioners including but not limited to dietitians, nurses, and speech pathologists to coordinate food and beverages for patients including the provision of special meals and nutritional supplements.
• Maintain high attention to detail and attentiveness with meal order entry to ensure all dietary restrictions are followed and patient specific food allergens are avoided.
• Ensure patient safety through diet order verification and proper entry of food allergies into food service computer software (CBORD).
Education: HS diploma or equivalent required
