As an Inpatient Wound and Ostomy Care RN, you’ll serve as a trusted clinical expert, delivering consultation and hands-on care for patients with abdominal stomas, wounds, fistulas, drains, pressure injuries, and incontinence. Your impact extends beyond individual care—you’ll empower Patient Care Facilitators (PCFs) and nursing staff with the knowledge and support needed to deliver consistently exceptional outcomes.

Clinical Excellence/Consultant
• Participates in orientation of new staff, acts as a resource, supports preceptors and residency programs and identifies opportunities for staff development for new oriented as well as all team members.
• Integrates the UnityPoint Health Des Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice.
• Participate and coordinate the hospital acquired pressure ulcer program and prevalence and incidence survey and data collection.
• Demonstrates critical thinking and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient.
• Identify areas of improvement for promoting both quality and cost effective patient care.
• Demonstrates creativity and innovation in the approach to complex problem solving.
• Participate and lead hospital wide initiatives/projects.
• Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests.
• Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
Patient Care/Education
• Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
• Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
• Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
• Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
• Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
• Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
• Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
