Marshalltown Hospital EMS & Allen Ambulance Service

Schedule: Full-Time; primarily 12-hour shifts with occasional 24-hour shifts.

This position supports both Marshalltown and Allen Ambulance Service locations and will need to travel between both locations

 

UnityPoint Health is seeking an experienced EMS professional to serve as an EMS Supervisor supporting both Marshalltown Area EMS and Allen Ambulance Service. This leadership role combines frontline patient care with operational oversight, providing an opportunity to positively impact patients, crews, and the communities we serve.

 

As an EMS Supervisor, you'll help lead daily operations, support team development, ensure high-quality patient care, and foster a collaborative, service-focused culture. Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day operational oversight for EMS personnel and ambulance service operations.
  • Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and workload distribution to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient operations.
  • Support onboarding, orientation, training, and ongoing professional development of team members.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide performance feedback to employees while fostering a positive team culture.
  • Collaborate with leadership on employee performance, quality initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Assist with patient and employee rounding, chart audits, and other quality assurance activities.
  • Respond to and help resolve operational concerns, patient complaints, and complex situations.
  • Deliver high-quality prehospital emergency medical care within established protocols and scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Complete accurate and timely patient care documentation while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Education:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required 
  • Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course is required 
  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 800 are preferred 

Experience:  

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ EMS experience is required 
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience is required 
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of emergency and pre-hospital care. Must have field experience as pre-hospital provider 

License(s)/Certification(s): 

  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Emerg Med Tech-Paramedic (must be licensed)  
  • Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse RN license and active PHRN license (preferred)
