Overview

Patient Care Technician
Marshalltown Hospital
Department: Inpatient Care
Shift: Part-Time | Days | 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM | 24 hours per week
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, holiday rotation, and every 3rd weekend

In this hands-on role, you'll work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to support patients throughout their hospital stay, helping create a safe, comfortable, and positive care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with daily care needs while promoting comfort, dignity, and safety
  • Partner with nurses and other healthcare team members to support patient care plans
  • Obtain and document patient information, observations, and vital signs accurately
  • Communicate important patient updates to the healthcare team in a timely manner
  • Support patient safety initiatives and help maintain a safe care environment
  • Monitor patients and report changes in condition or concerns promptly
  • Provide compassionate, respectful service to patients and their families
  • Contribute to smooth department operations through teamwork and collaboration
  • Assist with patient observation and safety monitoring as needed

Qualifications

This position does not get reported with Direct Care Workers (DCW).

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 15 patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset.
  • Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes.
  • Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations.
