The Intern is responsible for assisting department(s) and/or leadership in administrative and clerical tasks and gaining hands-on experience in hospital administration. They assist in various tasks, such as document management, scheduling, general correspondence, coordinating meetings, taking minutes, and preparing high-level reports. The role also assists with process improvement projects and quality control initiatives.

• Assist in day-to-day work within the designated department with non-clinical tasks and projects.
• Identifies areas of opportunity to enhance patient care by providing feedback to the Designated Leader based on observations of workflow, team member and patient interactions, living out the FOCUS values, and team dynamics.
• Complete a presentation at the end of the internship on ideas, suggestions, and lessons learned during time with the organization
• Participates in additional duties assigned as appropriate to enhance the learning of the inner workings of healthcare.
• Float to clinical and non-clinical areas to gain exposure to different career fields.
• Presents positive image of UnityPoint Health – Fort Dodge as deemed appropriate.
Education:
• Enrolled in high school or college.
• Must read, write and speak fluent English.
• Working toward a four-year degree.
Experience:
• Junior or Senior level in high school or enrolled in college.
• Able to work a minimum of 10-20 hours per week in significant blocks of time.
• A minimum of 3.0 GPA.
• Good computer skills are important including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. Knowledge of InDesign highly desired.
• Must be highly organized, self-directed and able to handle a variety of projects at one time. Must be a good team player.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Some weekend and/or evening hours may be required on a limited basis.
